Nokia Belle on Symbian OS roll-out ongoing in SA
The Nokia Belle update (or
Symbian Belle) for Nokia’s
Symbian^3 and Anna devices has started becoming available
globally, though many South
Africans won’t be able to update for a while yet.
A rollout status checker for Nokia Belle is available from the Nokia website, and it shows that updates are either waiting for operator approval, or are still under construction.
South Africa is the only African
country listed on the site that has not received the update across all devices. Device in countries like Mozambique, Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo
are all listed as “update
available.”
However, Nokia South Africa
recently confirmed reports from users who say they’ve been able to update, explaining that rollout
has begun on “vanilla” devices
bought through an open channel (as opposed to through an operator with their
customisations).
Devices that came in very early
may also be able to get the
update.
“With specific operator variants, the operator concerned needs to
test and approve the software on their network, so this adds to the time a little,” Nokia explained. “As
there are a lot of factors in play,
we cannot give an exact time the
rollout will come but we expect it
to be on the next few weeks.”
