Qualcomm Inc. and Ericsson AB
collaborate to demonstrate a
voice call handover from an LTE
mobile network to a WCDMA
network using Single Radio Voice
Call Continuity (SRVCC) technology.
SRVCC is a 3GPP specified feature that enables continuity of service by seamlessly switching to a
WCDMA network when a consumer on voice-over-LTE call
leaves the LTE network's coverage area.
The successful LTE-to-WCMDA transfer occurred on Dec. 23,
2011 using a handset based on Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4
MSM8960 application processor that is 3G/LTE multi-mode
capable. Qualcomm plans to repeat the demonstration at the
Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, which takes
place Feb. 27 to March 1, 2012.
SRVCC follows on from the launch of circuit-switched fallback (CSFB) technology on smartphones in
2011.
